The laughter of a person does not always mean that he is actually having fun. People can laugh for various reasons. Sometimes laughter can be a defensive response to stress or politeness.
Laugh at a joke
Hearing a funny joke, people start to laugh. The reason may be ridicule of someone else's stupidity, an ambiguous situation, an unusual coincidence or a good pun.
An individual may be amused by someone’s story, the situation taking place before his eyes, the scene in the film, the act in the play, or the chapter in the book.
Each person has his own concept of what can be considered ridiculous and what is not. Someone has a very subtle sense of humor, and give vulgar jokes to another. One individual is filled with loud laughter even from a bearded joke, while the other is very difficult to make laugh.
Therefore, there are several humorous genres. People can laugh at the tragicomedy, and at a joke below the waist, and at mime, and at a funny song. Actors in the comedy genre seek to find their own style, and some of them successfully find their own audience.
Self-irony
Sometimes a person does not laugh at other people, but at his own person. Some will be confused by their stupid mistakes, reservations, naivety or unluckiness. The ability to laugh at oneself is a property of a strong, self-sufficient, mature personality.
In addition, laughing at oneself indicates a high level of intelligence of the individual. But when constant self-irony goes beyond all limits, it becomes clear that this person has some problems with self-esteem and excessive self-criticism.
Politeness laugh
Sometimes a man laughs when he is not at all funny. A polite smile or a giggle is made to pay a bad storyteller who tries to please the audience. Others do not want to offend him and therefore pretend that they were funny to listen to an old joke or a flat joke.
Another situation is when a person wants to please someone and seeks to win someone’s favor at any cost. Then he, too, is sometimes ready to laugh at unfunny jokes and praise last year's jokes.
Hysterical laughter
Sometimes an uncontrolled laughter of a person for no apparent reason indicates that not everything is in order with his nervous system.
Loud, noteworthy laughter in this case becomes both a distress signal and a defensive reaction of a person.
In a stressful situation, the individual may begin to giggle unclear over what. This is also an indicator of shaky nerves. A person in this situation should at least have a good rest.
