Intuition in the ordinary sense does not quite correspond to the socionic understanding of intuition. Although these concepts intersect, they are not alien to each other. But intuition in the usual sense of the word, as we are used to using it, is present in people of the sensory type too. They, like intuition, can be visited by forebodings, conjectures, and insights. But with people of an intuitive type, this happens more often and brighter.
Intuition as a function in socionics
Intuition in socionics is responsible for a person’s contact with the world of ideas and states that cannot be perceived through the senses (vision, hearing, touch, etc.).
The objects with which intuition works (namely, images, ideas, states) cannot be defined in terms of the sensory world. Intuition operates with such concepts as probability, forecast, foresight, premonition, vague sensation, vision (as opposed to direct sensory contact), essence, meaning, subtle feeling, assumption, modeling, etc.
Features of people of an intuitive type
Due to the sensory vagueness of intuitive material, people of an intuitive type sometimes have difficulty verbally expressing what is on their mind or soul. There are also difficulties with the argumentation of one’s opinion: an intuition simply sees or feels, but cannot explain.
Since intuition is turned to the world of ideas, often the sensory side of life suffers from them: they can be somewhat disheveled, awkward, scattered, non-economic. They navigate worse in the world of things, it’s more difficult to get used to new things, whether it’s new food or new clothes, it’s more difficult to abandon old familiar things.
Various funny stories about how a raven man thinks or crosses the road at a red traffic light, thinking deeply about something of his own, or not noticing acquaintances, even having faced them nose to nose, are almost always intuitive stories.
