For many decades, interest in such a cinematic genre as horror and horror has not abated. The directors remove remakes and countless sequels of their favorite paintings. Such famous films as “Destination”, “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Shine”, “Scream”, “Friday the 13th”, “Halloween”, “Saw”, “Collector”, “Astral”, “Risen” from hell "and many others, have gathered a huge army of fans, and from year to year it does not become smaller.
Why are people so keen on watching scary movies? Are they harmful or beneficial to the human psyche and health?
There are several opinions of experts on the issue of watching films of genres: horror and horror. Some believe that this is not a big deal; it’s even useful to watch such pictures. Others are convinced that films can cause irreparable harm to the psyche.
Horror movies and fear of death
In modern society, people are so absorbed in daily worries and problems that they don’t have time for feelings. In order to feel alive and make it clear to one's own body, a person must experience very strong emotions, which include the fear of death, the fundamental, fundamental fear of all mankind.
Some people, in order to experience strong emotions and outsmart death, begin to engage in extreme sports, go through quests or watch horror films, which is much easier and simpler for most.
It is interesting to note that for each country and its religious preferences, the theme that is present in horror films is very different.
For example, in eastern countries, the belief that the spirit of the deceased can return and begin to take revenge on those living on earth is characteristic. In Eastern religious traditions, there is no resurrection of the body, because in most countries, after the death of a person, they are cremated, not buried in a coffin. Therefore, the appearance of the spirit of a deceased person for people professing the Eastern religion is something really scary. Similar views are reflected in the films: “Bell”, “Curse”, “Phantoms”.
In Christian traditions, where there is a burial of the body of the deceased in a tomb, rather than cremation, as well as resurrection from the dead, the appearance of zombies, werewolves, vampires, and the walking dead becomes frightening for people. It is these fears that are reflected in horror films.
In relation to horror, where blood flows like water, the situation is a little different. The desire to see death, craving for it has been present in people since ancient times.
Even in Rome, gladiatorial fights were organized, where there was a lot of blood and death. There were public executions in Russia, where fear and death also merged into one. Echoes of these traditions are present in modern society. A huge number of people come to see death. Not only that, today people record death on camera, and then repeatedly review the terrifying plots of accidents, disasters, fires, floods.
Therefore, the desire of people to see death on the screen of cinemas and television, to be horrified, afraid and experience a huge amount of emotions - a person needs to feel alive. This is a subconscious desire that opposes the fear of death.
In real life, few people want to experience what is happening on the screens. At the same time, people realize that everything that they see in the cinema is not real, so there is nothing to fear. And while watching, hormones are released, feelings appear, and emotional discharge sets in, which many people lack in real life.
