Compassion is the ability to empathize with someone else's pain, trouble, unhappiness. A person who has compassion is usually sensitive and delicate by nature.

Increasingly, one can hear this statement: compassion is an unnecessary anachronism. Allegedly, it only prevents a person from achieving success in life, distracting him from achieving his intended goal. In the end, everyone is for himself. Someone is luckier, someone less. And nowadays, in the era of fierce competition and eternal haste, to regret, to sympathize is simply once and no reason. Moreover, sometimes the famous quotation from the play "At the Bottom" by M. Gorky is cited, which states that pity humiliates a person. But is it? Indeed, compassion is what distinguishes a person from an animal. The laws of wildlife are inexorable: there is no place for a weak, sick, crippled creature, it quickly perishes, becoming either prey of predators or a victim of its own brethren. Among animals, there are also cases of manifestation of compassion, but this is the exception rather than the rule. But a normal person will not leave someone in need in trouble. Moreover, he will not finish him off, taking advantage of weakness or helplessness. Just because his human nature will not allow this. One who is capable of compassion will not commit villainy in relation to other people, or even to animals. Moreover, it will not be on the criminal path. Exceptions are, of course, but extremely rare. The opposite examples are when cruel, heartless people, starting with the torture of puppies and kittens, then became dangerous killer killers, alas, abound. It often happens that when a big grief or a whole mass of problems falls on a person, he feels deeply unhappy, it seems to him that an impenetrable “black streak” has come. In such a situation, compassion of another person can help him a lot: kind words of sympathy or support, offer of help. Their significance is difficult to overestimate. And, right, with all due respect to the great classic of Russian literature, there is nothing derogatory here. Imagine what a society would be, consisting entirely of people deprived of compassion, unable to extend a helping hand to a person in need, or simply say good words to him. The impression is just creepy. It would hardly be comfortable to be among such entities. Therefore, accept for the axiom that compassion is one of the most important and valuable human qualities. And try not to be indifferent to the grief of others, troubles. After all, you are people.
