To justify lazy people and loafers, who constantly leave all things for later, the obscure term “procrastination” was coined (translated from English procrastination means delay). Together with him, ideal conditions were created for doing nothing. If earlier bedbuckers had to somehow justify their laziness, today it’s enough to mention this sonorous word so that others begin to look at them with respect. But how does delayed-action syndrome actually arise?

Alarming

According to psychologists, most often the cause of procrastination is increased anxiety. A person is inclined to be afraid of ridicule, criticism, large financial expenses, failures and much more. That is why a long-standing conflict, for the resolution of which it is necessary to find out the relationship once or for all or even ask for forgiveness, makes most people postpone the conversation again and again. They reassure themselves that in order to resolve the situation it is better to wait for a convenient moment. In other words, they engage in self-deception.

Another equally common example of an increased level of anxiety is postponing hospital visits. Better to endure pain than to get into unpleasant procedures or hear an unexpected diagnosis. At such moments, it is recommended to act according to the scheme "first into battle, but we'll see." Fears, as a rule, turn out to be greatly exaggerated, and a gloomy pessimistic mood is quickly replaced by a business approach.

Hard

At first glance, many things seem very complicated. So complex that you can’t figure out where to start. Buying a car, repairing an apartment, moving to another job, creating a family - many take any of these options for months, or even years. For a quick and successful completion of the case, you can divide its implementation into several stages. How, for example, to move a large mountain of sand from one place to another without special equipment? It is very simple - using a shovel and a wheelbarrow to transport it in small portions. The same thing with the repair. Depending on the fullness of the wallet, the house is divided into sections in which repair work is carried out in turn.

The breakdown of a complex case into stages with a record of all steps and details allows you to see the whole picture without overloading the brain. Otherwise, the gray matter in our head may refuse to solve problems, “freezing” like a computer.

Never mind

Almost every one of us often accumulates various small things, the implementation of which you can do at any time. But for some reason, a pile of utility bills continues to grow on the shelf, music CDs taken for a couple of days are covered with dust, and there is so much ice in the freezer that nothing fits into it. In this regard, one of the professors at Stanford University proposed to structure procrastination. That is, to force a person who is loosening from one thing to do another - more pleasant and at the same time useful. So at least significantly reduced guilt.

Not interested

Psychologists concluded that the level of procrastination is much lower when a person hopes for a quick, and most importantly a pleasant effect from the completed work. Therefore, you need to try to see something interesting in the task, otherwise it will remain in the plans. For example, imagine what pleasant things the premium will be spent at the end of the project, or how many “likes” will receive a fun video posted on the Internet.
