In the behavior of some people there are incomprehensible quirks, which many regard as a whim or, in some cases, as a bad, improper upbringing. But not everyone knows that "quirk" or "whim" may have a completely scientific name, and in some cases be considered a mental disorder.

It is worth considering the most striking examples of "vagaries" behind which are hidden serious problems and diseases.

Onychophagia

A constant desire to bite and bite your nails is called onychophagia. It is believed that this disease affects mainly children and adolescents up to eighteen years old, most often women. Almost a half of the population of our planet, including very famous people, is affected by this disease - at a certain age.

The danger of onychophagia is that constant biting of the nails can lead to damage to the nail plate, the skin around the nail and cuticle. Teeth also suffer from this disease, and microbes can enter the body. Moreover, the problem can affect self-esteem and deprive a person of work.

Misophonia

Intolerance to sounds that in an ordinary person do not cause any reaction, is called misophonia. Many people, of course, can respond to unpleasant sounds, but if a person is annoyed by any loud sound, even if someone nearby is breathing, eating, coughing, putting papers on the table or doing some ordinary business, then this is a mental disorder.

A person suffering from misophony can lose his temper instantly after hearing an unpleasant sound. The reaction can be very unpredictable and aggressive. A patient may begin to pound a table or wall with his fist, beat dishes, scream and be annoyed. It is sometimes impossible for friends and relatives to be near such a person, and his mental disorder requires compulsory treatment. Many people suffering from misophony prefer to spend more time alone and rarely start a family.

Oppositional Disobedience Disorder

If there is a person in your work team who always perceives the instructions of the bosses with hostility, tries to undermine his authority by all means, argues and proves his point, even when it makes no sense, then you may have a personality with a mental disorder called opposition disorder of disobedience. In the medical literature, one can find an accurate description of this violation, characterized by a hostile attitude towards superiors and aggressive, negative behavior.

Despite the fact that a large percentage of this disease is already observed in quite mature people, it also occurs in childhood. If aggression towards adults is constantly present in the behavior of a child, then it is likely that in the future this condition will only worsen. The sooner you pay attention to this, the easier it will be to cope with such a mental disorder.
