A professiogram is a document establishing internal and external factors of work, working conditions, a description of its objective and subjective characteristics. Professiograms are written for different purposes. Those that are aimed at finding out the causes of failures in production, or at improving systems, are only capable of narrow specialists. Professionograms from the field of psychology of labor are more understandable to a wide range of people and are available for compilation.

Make a general description of the profession. Indicate the name according to the officially accepted nomenclature. Describe its social significance, the need for this profession. Indicate the necessary education and range of qualifications (ranks, classes, etc.), as well as career prospects.

Describe the labor process: answer the questions of what is the content of labor, what the activity (the subject of labor) is aimed at, what means are used in the labor process, what are its results. Describe the main responsibilities, this is the so-called production characteristics of the profession.

Point out the requirements of a profession to an employee: what general and special knowledge and skills are needed to fulfill professional duties, what requirements are imposed on the faultlessness and reliability of operations performed. Outline the required state of health, physiological characteristics of the person. What are the medical contraindications? Describe the working conditions. It can also be sanitary conditions (a room or open air, sitting, standing, noise, temperature); and economic (remuneration, benefits, vacation), and technical, etc.

Make a psychological description of labor. Each profession has attractive and unattractive sides, specific difficulties, occupational hazards, benefits, opportunities for self-expression of different latitudes. In addition, the important characteristics will be the breadth of communication, its constancy, straightforwardness or mediation.

Make a psychogram. This is an important part of the profession description. A psychogram involves a description of the internal picture of labor, even in the form of a photograph of a working day. Describe exactly all activities, their timing throughout the day, important events and their frequency. From this description, a picture should be formed of what are the working poses, statistical or dynamic loads during work. Describe the requirements for human performance, type of thinking, type of memory, responsibility, self-control, the ability to act in a time-constrained environment and make decisions. State what other requirements at the level of mental processes can be (for emotionality, speech, motivation, experience, intelligence, moral and psychological stability, character traits).
