You should know that the purpose of Jesus prayer is not to stop the internal dialogue, but this stop comes as one of the results of practice. While praying, pay attention not only to words, but also to pauses. It is during pauses that you stand before God in complete silence. Gradually increase the length of the pauses, the criterion of correctness here is the absence of thoughts, especially outsiders. If thoughts arise, reduce the pause. Remember that the practice of Jesus prayer involves a high degree of humility and a lack of pride. Before you do it, be sure to read the instructions of the Holy Fathers, and better than once.

If you are not a religious person, try a different path - just watch your thoughts. The task is difficult, you will now and then forget that you wanted to do this. But if you don’t back off, the moments of remembrance will come more and more often until you begin to observe yourself almost constantly. In this case, thoughts will simply disappear, you will gradually learn to be in complete inner silence. At the same time, the absence of thoughts is not mental degradation - on the contrary, you rise to a new step in cognition and development.
