Concentration of attention and thoughts requires a large expenditure of mental strength. Any external stimuli can distract a person from the object of concentration. An important factor for successful concentration is the absence of external stimuli. When you read a book, write or reflect on something, any sound, movement can distract your attention. The most difficult thing is to concentrate in crowded and noisy places. If you work at home, and your loved ones watch TV, talk loudly and constantly ask any questions, you will not be able to fully concentrate on the task. Try to isolate yourself as much as possible from external stimuli. Find a secluded and quiet place where you can work more productively. If you cannot find such a place, try to isolate yourself mentally from the events happening around you. Imagine that your head is in a large glass ball, and all external sounds bounce off it, not reaching your attention.

When you need to concentrate on routine work or a boring lecture that is not interesting, try to find something new in it. Take a look at familiar things from the other side. Suppose you are listening to the tenth report at a conference, your attention has been scattered and your thoughts have gone in an unknown direction. Imagine yourself as a person who first encountered the topic as if you accidentally got into the room. Find the points in the report that might interest you. This may be different from your opinion on already known things, some previously unexplored figures, facts and language of terms. You may be interested in the unusual speech style of the speaker and the ability to present complex material readily.

Special exercises will help you learn to concentrate thoughts. Set yourself any object - an apple, a vase, a matchbox or a clock. Focus on the selected subject. View it from different angles. Pay attention to the color, volume, shape, smell, sensations when you touch the item. Try to clearly keep your attention and reflect on the subject for at least two minutes. As soon as you notice that your attention has gone from the object of concentration, gently put it back and continue the exercise. Perform the exercise every day for 5-10 minutes. Soon it will become easier for you to control your thoughts.
